Successful Start into the Truck-Racing Season! Stephanie Halm Among the Top 10!
After a successful media reception on Wednesday at the Meritor plant, the season opening of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship on the Misano World Circuit – with 38,000 spectators on site – was equally successful for the German Pilot Stephanie Halm and her French Lion Truck Racing team:
Pole position, three times in the points, 8 points for the individual and 9 points for the team championship class Steffi among the top-ten pilots for the first time in her truck-racing career!
Saturday morning already showed Halm’s high motivation for the start of the new season. After ranking at the superpole, the odds for being amongst the fastest drivers were in her favour.
Already after the first lap, she had managed to gain ground levelling up one position. She then tried to snatch away the eighth position from her Hungarian brand made Benedek Major. It worked out great and encouraged her to try the same manoeuvre in order to overtake her compatriot René Reinert.
A touch caused the Lion truck to slightly fall back, but Steffi remained calm and shortly after quickly managed to gain back the eighth position. As the top-eighth finishers start the second race with reversed grid, Halm got her first pole position!
For some laps, she remained among the podium positions and thus among the leaders of the field until a technical problem forced her to enter the pit lane early on.
On Sunday, she once again scored a superpole and stood out with brilliant catch-up races at the following race: from 20th to 10th and 14th to 7th position.
Like at the season opening of the French Cup in Alès, crowds of spectators came by to congratulate her – for a long time, no ETRC pilot had managed to put on such a great show for the spectators!
After the race, Steffi stated still quite euphorically: “Today was indeed a day of overtaking. I kept count: Just today, on Sunday, I overtook 18 trucks.”
After Stephanie Halm joined the FIA programme “Women in Motorsport”, with this statement, she underlines her ambitious goal to put the pedal to the metal and to give it all this year!
